Our first AGM held Nov. 2015

Dear member of the Saskatchewan theatre community,

Hard to believe, but it's already been a year since our association was established at a meeting in Saskatoon. Earlier this month, we marked the occasion with our first Annual General Meeting, graciously hosted by the Globe Theatre in Regina. Huge thanks to all who attended. Here are a few highlights:

SATP board chair Alan Long reported on the past year's activities, which included establishment of some fundamental communications tools (website, post office box, etc.) and ongoing dialogue with Creative Saskatchewan about the provincial government's support for and relationship with the theatre community.

In the course of his report, Alan emphasized the importance of securing operational funding from Creative Saskatchewan. This funding would enable the SATP to hire an executive director dedicated to building the association and advancing key priorities of the Saskatchewan theatre community. To date, our application to Creative Saskatchewan for operational funding has received no formal response. All other creative-industry associations in the province receive operational funding.

Board member Cynthia Dyck provided a financial update. Because our association's budget falls well below the provincial threshold requiring an audit or financial review, the members at the AGM voted not to appoint an auditor or financial reviewer. Any SATP member wishing to review the financial statements can request them at any time by sending an email to sask.theatre@gmail.com.

We have new board members! Returning board members Alan Long, Cynthia Dyck, Judy Wensel, Kenn McLeod, Denis Rouleau, and Carla Orosz were thrilled to welcome newly elected board members Joey Tremblay, Evie Koop Sawatzky, and Dawn Bergstrom to the team. Alan and Joey will serve as co-chairs this coming year; Denis will be vice-chair; Cynthia will serve as treasurer, and Judy as secretary.

In other big news, you can now renew or purchase your SATP membership online! Thanks to the generous website hosting of Saskatoon's On the Boards Staging Company, you only need to visit http://sasktheatreprofessionals.ca and click on the membership renewal link near the bottom of the home page. This will take you the OTB site, where you will find all the information you need to purchase or renew your membership. If you prefer to mail in your application with a cheque, all necessary forms and instructions can also be found at this link.

We can't stress enough the value to our association of your membership and involvement. It has never been more important for us to find strength in numbers.

And finally, a heads-up from our friends at Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon: the theatre's newly enlarged Backstage Stage has an opening. The space is available for rent March 1 – 18th. If you think the Backstage could be a great venue for your project, contact Laura at laura.h@persephonetheatre.org.

That's it for now. We will be in touch again soon. In the meantime, you can always reach us with questions, comments, suggestions, etc. at sask.theatre@gmail.com.

Happy holidays!
