Community Consultations about the Future of the Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA)
October 22, 2018
PACT is conducting a series of community consultations about the future of the most influential labour agreement in Canadian Theatre, the CTA.
As many of you know, the PACT membership overwhelmingly rejected the proposed agreement at the last AGM. PACT members recognized the need to have a more diverse practice and to broaden the scope of partnerships from within equity seeking communities.
Because the Canadian Theatre Agreement, negotiated between PACT and Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, influences practice across professional theatre both inside and outside PACT membership, it is vital for PACT to take into consideration how a newly negotiated CTA will affect the larger theatre community.
PACT is planning community consultation sessions in many of the major city centres across Canada so that each individual theatre community and any surrounding areas have the opportunity to participate in these important conversations.
In a quest to create modernized and more inclusive working conditions in the practice of theatre, we are conducting these consultations across the country and hope to reach the widest possible swath of theatre practitioners, both within and outside the PACT membership.
This is where we need your help. We would love for members to help get the word out and amass enough representation from each community to have a meaningful impact on this process. The consultations are open to PACT members and non-member organizations and producers.
We are intentionally seeking the participation of producers from equity seeking communities. If producers from the BIPOC, disability arts or other marginalized communities require financial assistance in order to make attendance more feasible, please contact Sara Meurling in the PACT office at email@example.com.
Additionally, travel assistance may be available for organizations or producers from rural or remote communities.
Please inform the PACT office if ASL interpretation is required at any of the sessions.
Due to limited resources, electronic participation in the consultations is not available.
