Our History
Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals had its first Annual General Meeting on November 2nd, 2014, in Saskatoon, SK where new members began to sign theatres, and individual theatre professionals, into our membership.
Initially created to represent the needs of Saskatchewan's professional theatre artists and organizations to government agencies, SATP has also developed programs and supports to further the development of individual artistic careers and support the work of our theatres and producing companies.
We not only represent professional theatre organizations, but individuals as well. We welcome and encourage membership from actors, directors, designers, artistic associates, playwrights, administrative staff, producers, technicians, stage managers, and every other position working in the professional theatre.
Our Vision
SATP envisions the continuance and evolution of an adaptive, sustainable, and connected theatre industry contributing to healthy, inclusive communities and the Saskatchewan arts culture.
Our Mission
SATP is dedicated to empowering Saskatchewan theatre makers and professionals with relevant training, programming, and promotional opportunities, while being responsive to current cultural needs. SATP cultivates arts creation and development at all levels of the province through public and industry advocacy. We are committed to building strong community, professional relationships, and networks within the Saskatchewan theatre sector.
Our Values
● Growth: the continuation and development of an innovative and vibrant theatre community and arts sector.
● Accessibility: art is for everyone, and SATP commits to ongoing assessment of our working practices with the intention of iterative improvement.
● Diversity: creating space for and valuing voices from diverse backgrounds, practices, and knowledge.
● Responsiveness: Attending to the needs of the theatre community as articulated through an ongoing dialogue with the theatre community.
● Collaboration: SATP builds on the inherent nature of theatre-making to enhance the experiences and outcomes of theatre practice in Saskatchewan by placing collaboration at the centre of each of our values.
Our Mission

Build a strong network – facilitating effective communication among our members, and between our members and their theatre communities and stakeholders.
Promote professional theatre – working for increased public awareness and support for the theatre professionals and professional theatre, for the encouragement of theatre opportunities and government understanding of the value and social importance of theatre to our province.
Advance professional theatre – working with our membership to advance their skills and opportunities for creative development, business development and workforce development through training/mentorship initiatives, data sharing opportunities and technological advancements.
