World Theatre Day Gala 2026
March 27, 2026 | Saskatoon
Theatre is a home for all stories.
On March 27, 2026, SATP hosted our inaugural World Theatre Day Gala! Held in Saskatoon at Glass and Lumber (432 20th Street West), the evening was a celebration of the amazing theatre made in Saskatchewan over the past year. 2026’s official World Theatre Day theme centred on Canadian Identities and sovereignty, with a focus on the role theatres play in our communities as places to gather and connect, learn from one another’s experiences, find commonalities, and celebrate our differences. We also wanted to use this opportunity to celebrate the Saskatchewan theatre community more specifically - the art that was created, the challenges overcome, and the growth that occurred.
It was a wonderful evening of food, drink, live performances and art installations by local theatre artists, connection, community and celebration.

This session was intended for creatives, including actors, designers, directors, stage managers, technicians, indie producers, painters, sculptors, songwriters, musicians, artists, bands, studios, producers, visual creators, marketing folks and more.

Martina of BackBeat Bookkeeping/Martina Music led participants in an interactive and fun (yes, we said fun!) session to better understand their artistic financial questions, including why it’s important to understand artistic finances, and Bookkeeping 101 - why it matters.
Presented in partnership with ScreenSask, the Saskatchewan Craft Council, SaskMusic, and SaskInteractive.

The goal of this meeting was for SATP to find out how we can better support our member organizations, how we can advocate on their behalf, and how we can all support each other as organizations.
There was coffee, brainstorming, and lively discussion. SATP really looks forward to continuing these important community conversations.
Thank you to the producers who joined us, and to Persephone Theatre for hosting us in your cozy Tier 2 lounge!

TheatreCon 2025 - BTS: Behind the Stage
JUNE 5 - 8, 2025 | REGINA
After the success of the inaugural TheatreCon in 2023, SATP was thrilled to once again host a conference for theatre folk. This conference was for SATP members (and soon-to-be SATP members), including but not limited to theatre makers, arts administrators, theatre educators, students, and creatives.
How do you make a living in theatre, really?
There are a lot of details behind the magic of theatre that public audiences don’t see - the often unaddressed practical aspects, the technical and production facets, and the strategies artists use to support their personal health and wellness in an industry that is all about extremes.
How do you write grants to secure funding for that show you've always wanted to produce? How do you file taxes as an independent artist or producer? How does your theatre plan and program shows that audiences will want to attend? How do you make a website or portfolio that is clean and easy to access yet still shows off your creative skills? How do you support artists in a safe, healthy, and equitable way through long tech hours? There are so many areas you have to be an "expert" in that it can be overwhelming. TheatreCon 2025 decided to explore a few of these questions and more to help artists continue to fill their pack of skills to thrive in the prairie theatre industry.
Over the course of the weekend, attendees attended guided sessions, hands-on workshops, and community conversations, as well as a variety of other sessions intended to engage and inform. There will be opportunities to connect with fellow artists, see a show (Bring It On - Globe Theatre), and build community.
LOCATIONS & ACCESSIBILITY
Events for the 2025 conference took place at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Downtown Regina (1818 Victoria Avenue). The hotel has wheelchair-accessible conference spaces and elevator access to the different floors.
We wanted to give attendees space to let us know their accessibility and comfort needs. In the registration process, there was space to specify if supports such as ASL interpretation, childcare, transportation, sensory room/quiet space, and mobility support would make attendance more enjoyable.
COST
TheatreCon 2025 registration packages were based on a Pay-What-You-Can model.
Early Bird Registration options - $40 - $80 - $120
Regular Registration options - $60 - $90 - $150
Pay-It-Forward Conference Pass - Because the Pay-It-Forward Passes were such a success in 2023, we continued with this model for 2025.
TheatreCon 2023: A Gathering of Live Performing Arts Practitioners
OCTOBER 13-15, 2023 | SASKATOON
After a slow emergence from the near shutdown of live performing arts in Saskatchewan and around the world, we decided it was about time we came together to celebrate our survival and look to the future. This convention was for SATP members (and soon-to-be SATP members), including but not limited to theatre practitioners, administrators, and creatives in Saskatchewan.
TheatreCon was designed to bring Saskatchewan theatre-makers together to grow, learn, and strengthen each other as a community. It included opportunities to connect and network, enjoy performances, gather resources, and attend workshops aimed at helping participants grow in their craft and career.
Over the course of the weekend, we aimed to provide participants with a Resource Fair of organizations and supports they could connect with, as well as sessions to engage the mind and spirit. There was plenty of time to connect with each other as well as time to enjoy theatre together, including attending opening night of Persephone Theatre's The First Metis Man of Odesa on Friday, October 13th, and a performance of The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine (part of Live Five Independent Theatre’s season) on Saturday, October 14th.
