Modern Grant-Making: A Cross-Sector Conversation and Recording

This past spring, Executive Director Judith joined Saskatchewan Arts Alliance and Ivy + Dean Consulting for a public conversation inspired by Modern Grantmaking: A Guide for Funders Who Believe Better is Possible.

Over the course of five weeks, two groups met in parallel. One was made up of funders working within granting systems, and the other of artists and arts administrators who regularly navigate those systems. Together, they reflected on what resonates in the book, what feels challenging in a Saskatchewan context, and what kinds of change might actually be possible.

"So many artists, producers, and arts administrators have to deal with grantmakers and the granting system. How much empathy and understanding do we have for a system that's supposed to work for us but often feels like we're working against it? This book and the discussions we had in the book club shed light on the struggles we deal with in the Arts & Culture Sector, as well as dreaming about and calling to action a better way of grantmaking and handling the business of giving away money.”

Budget Day at the Saskatchewan Legislature

On March 18, 2026, the Assembly presented the Government of Saskatchewan's 2026-27 Provincial Budget. Judith and many other community leaders attended the event. Our friends at the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance wrote an excellent response to the budget - you can find it on their website or at the link in their bio.

Of course, no visit to Regina is complete without a visit to The Globe! Judith caught a performance of 'Frozen', as well as the University of Regina Devised Theatre Program's 'What Was, What Will' - the very first production in The Globe's brand new second stage space.

And finally - SATP is all about supporting local! Judith picked up the necessary snack and warm beverage at Brewed Awakening downtown.

Ministry Summer Showcase

On July 8 2026, SATP was invited to attend a summer showcase event, hosted by the Ministry of Parks, Culture & Sport and the Western Development Museum. Organizations including Wanuskewin, the Saskatchewan Science Centre, and the Western Development Museum shared a bit about all the incredible events, camps, and programs they’ll be running this summer throughout our beautiful province.

We appreciate the highlight the Ministry has brought to Saskatchewan’s rich cultural scene, and we encourage the current government to continue supporting the arts & culture of our province in as many ways as possible.

Our artists, our organizations, and our industries not only boost the economy, but are also integral in inspiring the general population to create and keep going when the world is full of turmoil. Art and artists play a part in fostering the coming generations to be creative and valuable citizens.

Investing in culture is investing in people.
