Mentorship Program

The SATP Mentorship Program is undergoing some exciting new changes this year! We are splitting the program into two streams, both of which are designed to provide opportunities to performing-arts practitioners seeking a mentorship in various areas. The mentorship program is for artists who are both new to the industry and/or new to a field in any discipline.

build-your-own individual mentorship stream

This program was formerly known as the Professional Theatre Mentorship Program and has been supporting artists since 2019! Previous successful applicants have found mentors for specific projects or objectives they’ve planned to achieve. We have supported mentorships in the areas of design, playwrighting, directing, dramaturgy, company administration and long-term planning, devised creation, and more. The only limit is your imagination!

Applicants must submit with a mentor & area of focus in mind or contact SATP to receive support in finding a mentor (more details below).

Indie Producing Mentorship Cohort Stream

This year we are introducing a new model to our mentorship program: the cohort! We are thrilled to welcome Saskatchewan’s own, Grahame Kent, to lead a cohort of mentees as their mentor, in the topic of independent producing. This stream is open to new producers who want to produce a show independently within the next two years (more details below).

SATP’s Mentorship Program does not fund tuition fees or training in educational institutions.

SATP encourages and welcomes applications from individuals who identify as neurodivergent, D/deaf or disabled, Indigenous, Black, or Persons of Colour.

This program is funded by Creative Saskatchewan.

deadline to apply for both streams: December 14, 2025 — 11:59 PM

    BUILD-YOUR-OWN Individual Mentorships

It is the responsibility of the applicant to identify and contact their proposed mentor(s) regarding a training opportunity with them. The applicant and the mentor are expected to work together to jointly determine the content of and the schedule of the mentorship program.

SATP is happy to provide support in identifying potential mentors. Please reach out prior to December 8, 2025 to request this support. Email Executive Director Judith Schulz to start the process.

SATP encourages the mentorship to take place within Canada, and specifically within Saskatchewan; however, exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis; applicants hoping to work with a mentor outside of Canada or Saskatchewan should outline why their circumstances are exceptional in their application.

    INDIE PRODUCING Mentorship Cohort

  • Can I apply for both streams of the SATP Mentorship Program?

Yes, you can apply for both streams, however you will not be able to be a participant in both. The jury will determine the best fit if an applicant has submitted in both streams.

Am I able to participate in the Indie Producing Mentorship Cohort if I don’t live in Saskatoon or Regina?

Yes, of course! With the exception of one gathering that will take place in either Saskatoon or Regina (TBC) mid-program, the rest of the program takes place online.

What if I don’t know anyone who could be my mentor for the BUILD-YOUR-OWN Individual Mentorships?

If finding a mentor is preventing you from applying, please reach out to us prior to December 8, 2025, and we may be able to put you in touch with some options based on your area of focus. Please reach out sooner rather than later, as this process takes time.

Can I apply for the BUILD-YOUR-OWN Individual Mentorships with or without a signed contract for a project?

Yes! Some of our most successful mentorships have been when there has been a dedicated project lined up, however, you can also create your own project with your own deadlines, or simply use the time with your mentor how it works best for you.
