Are you looking for a unique leadership opportunity? Have you been yearning to put your skills in community building, strategic thinking, project management, or advocacy in service to the Saskatchewan performing arts community?
Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals is looking for new board members to guide the organization as it continues to offer creative development and vocational support to a rapidly growing membership of live performing art practitioners and organizations across the province.
About SATP
The Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals (SATP) was established in 2014 to represent the needs of Saskatchewan’s professional theatre artists and organizations to government agencies. Since its inception, SATP has developed programs and supports to further the development of individual artistic careers and support the work of our theatres and producing companies. Key initiatives have included our professional theatre mentorship program and the planning and development of TheatreCon, Saskatchewan's first provincial conference for theatre practitioners and leaders.
Since 2020 and the onset of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, our membership has more than quadrupled in number, and we face a challenging yet exciting opportunity to develop programs and services that will support rebuilt and revitalized communities of artists and creative entrepreneurs during a time of profound societal change.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Board of Directors
SATP is governed by a volunteer board of directors representing arts administrators, theatre producers, non-profit organizations, technicians, and vocational practitioners in the live performing arts in Saskatchewan.
The board is responsible for the oversight of SATP and sets its policy and direction while guiding the organization to fulfill its mission, vision, and values. The board also oversees the development, approval, and monitoring of the strategic plan.
Skills/Demographics
We are seeking potential board members who are passionate about the value and potential of the live performing arts in Saskatchewan. We are hoping to find board members who can contribute to some of the following capacities on our board:
Energetic people, who are not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm for the arts to work;
Skills/Experience - finance/funding; advocacy; note-taking and summarizing; legal;
We are especially interested in someone with previous treasurer experience or experience with budgets and financial matters for non-profit organizations.
Geography – Anywhere in Saskatchewan, with a particular interest in individuals from Regina, North Battleford, Prince Albert, and Swift Current;
Demographic background – Individuals with a variety of experiences due to gender, age, and ethnicity.
Past experience on a board of directors, while not necessary, will be beneficial.
At this time, we are only accepting applications from Saskatchewan residents.
Time Commitment
The board of directors meets virtually approximately once per month. Board committees meet throughout the year and decide on the amount of involvement collectively. Board members are expected to be responsive to communications about SATP matters and give input as requested.
